Both USB ports are blocked by components on my board. Is it possible to pry the large power brick off the board to gain access to the port? Can I power the system from that port?

Hi Steve,
removing the power supply from the PCB should be fairly easy with a flat screwdriver. Make sure though you do not dig it into the PCB. You should be able to power the system from the USB port. Make sure your power source provides stable 5V 3A and there are no ground loops with your heating system. You would still need the return path to the furnace so make sure you know what you are doing
